SUMMARY

The Project Safety Engineer assists Project Managers and Project Safety Managers to ensure that work installed on the project meets construction plan and specification requirements with an emphasis on safety and Layton safety initiatives.  The Project Safety Engineer is expected to assess and respond to customer needs and cultivate customer relationships through proactive interaction with project owners. The Project Safety Engineer must also foster the fundamental Company business philosophies as well as assist in the process training project personnel. 

DUTIES

  1. Monitors and follows through on safety issues at the assigned project site, enforcing OSHA compliance.
  2. Performs multiple daily documented project site inspections, ensuring all work areas conform to OSHA and MSHA standards; notifies supervisors of compliance issues; suggests corrective action; follows up to ensure proper corrective action was taken; discipline employees and subcontractors for safety non-compliance; may issue written warnings and/or shut down work as necessary until compliance is achieved.
  3. Conducts weekly safety meetings with project crews to train them on appropriate safety topics.
  4. Investigates accidents on the assigned project, gathering facts and writing the first report of injury.
  5. Performs appropriate emergency medical services according to level of certification and/or training; accompanies injured employees to the doctor as needed.
  6. Conducts industrial hygiene surveys as necessary to detect gases and noise; conducts respiration fit tests.
  7. Certifies project employees on equipment as needed.
  8. Develops and monitors project quality, safety, and risk management plans.
  9. Regularly visits the project site and monitors costs, safety, quality, and schedule performance with the Project Superintendent.
  10. Attends and documents owner and other coordination meetings.

QUALIFICATIONS

  1. Bachelors degree in construction management, engineering, safety, or working towards related degree
  2. 0-3 years in a field-related construction position
  3. Has a working knowledge of construction and safety laws and practices.
  4. Understands and applies building codes and other design requirements correctly.
  5. Has excellent problem solving ability: finds and uses relationships between data from different sources to formulate alternative solutions.
  6. The ability to perform essential duties and responsibilities efficiently, accurately, and safely with or without reasonable accommodation and without posing threat of harm to self or others.
