PRIMARY DUTIES

Applies advanced knowledge to perform professional carpentry duties for forming concrete footings, walls and slabs.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Form and pour footings.
  • Secure stakes and align forms to grids.
  • Straighten, plumb, and square forms and align to grid lines to construct footings.
  • Raise forms to required elevation.
  • Determine level of concrete in forms.
  • Determine best method to form a wall.
  • Straighten, plumb and square wall forms.
  • Align forms to grid lines to construct walls.
  • Shoot grades on forms to required elevation.
  • Ensure concrete is poured at correct rate and consolidated properly.
  • Vibrate and float concrete.
  • Build and install block outs and in beds.
  • Install architectural finishes according to specifications and plans (for Interior Construction Specialists).
  • Install door frames, doors, hardware and miscellaneous trim and finish items.
  • Ensure that job site is kept clean and safe by craftsmen.
  • Identify hazards associated with task assignments and ask questions.
  • Understand and follow lock out/tag out procedures.
  • Comply with all safety policies, practices and procedures. Report all unsafe activities to supervisor and/or Safety.
  • Have tools required of a finish carpenter and/or form setter position.

 

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

Follows the decisions of the foreman and superintendent and directs the work of the carpenter helpers and laborers

QUALIFICATIONS

Education and/or Experience

High school education or equivalent and at least 3 of experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience. 

Language Skills

Ability to read blueprints to determine measurements, sizes, locations, types of walls, footings and floors and to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos.  Ability to write simple correspondence and to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients and other employees of the organization.

Mathematical Skills

Ability to add and subtract two digit numbers and to multiply and divide with 10's and 100's.  Ability to use carpentry math to calculate measurements.

Reasoning Ability

Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists; interprets a variety of complex instructions.

 

Computer Skills

Not required for this position.

 

Planning/Organization

Prioritize tasks.

 

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations

Not required.

ICRA Training preferred

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

Requires heavy physical activity performing strenuous daily activities of a primarily productive/technical nature.  While performing the duties of this position, the employee is regularly required to walk, sit, use hands to finger, handle or feel, reach with hands and arms, and stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl, push, pull, grip with force, talk or hear, and taste or smell.  The employee is occasionally required to climb or balance.  The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds may be required less frequently to lift and/or move more than 100 pounds.  Vision requirements include good depth perception, field of vision, and the ability to adjust the eye to bring an object into sharp focus.    

WORK ENVIRONMENT

The work environment is outdoors where the employee is exposed to changing weather conditions.  Employee is regularly required to lift or carry items.  Employee is often exposed to an improperly illuminated or awkward and confining space.  Employee will occasionally come into contact with air contamination such as dust, fumes, smoke, toxic conditions or disagreeable odors.  Occasionally, employee will be working above ground level where the possibility of falling exists.  Noise level is very loud.

TRAVEL

Overnight travel by land and/or air may be required.

Employee will work mainly with the foreman and other craft employees. 

 

WORK SCHEDULE/HOURS

Hours are generally 40 per week.  The employee may be requested to work up to 10 to 20 hours of overtime.  Overtime will be compensated at time and one-half the employee's base rate or in accordance with applicable state laws.

 

Nothing in this position description restricts management's right to assign or reassign duties and responsibilities to this position at any time.
