Follow directions of carpenters and finishers to perform specific duties in the construction of walls, footings and slabs.


  • Install ties, forms and hardware.
  • Align, straighten, plumb and square forms.
  • Measure, cut and assist in installing keyways.
  • Assist with footing construction (secure stakes to grids; nail scabs to footing forms; assist carpenter in raising forms to required elevation; consolidate concrete in forms; float concrete.)
  • Perform tie spacing layout; measure, mark and drill and/or cut.
  • Straighten, plumb and square wall forms. Align to grid lines.
  • Shoot grades on forms to required elevation.
  • Vibrate and float concrete (16' - 20').
  • Assist in flatwork finishing
  • Assist in laydown process for flatwork
  • Cure, seal and weather-protect flatwork as instructed by finishers
  • Maintain a clean and safe job site (stack cut waste material into piles; install handrails under the carpenter direction).
  • Help install architectural finishes (door frames, doors and hardware, miscellaneous trim and finish items).
  • Identify hazards associated with task assignments and ask questions.
  • Understand and follow lock out/tag out procedures.
  • Comply with all safety policies, practices and procedures. Report all unsafe activities to supervisor and/or Safety.
  • Participate in proactive team efforts to achieve department and company goals.
  • Have minimum tools associated with trade.


Education and/or Experience

  • One year certificate from college or technical school; or three to six months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Language Skills

  • Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence.
  • Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization.

Mathematical Skills

  • Ability to add and subtract two digit numbers and to multiply and divide with 10's and 100's. 
  • Ability to perform these operations using units of American money and weight measurement, volume and distance.

Reasoning Ability

  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out simple one-or-two-step instructions. 
  • Ability to deal with standardized situations with only occasional or no variables.

Computer Skills

  • Not required for this position.

Requires heavy physical activity performing strenuous daily activities of a primarily productive/technical nature. While performing the duties of this position, the employee is regularly required to walk, sit, use hands to finger, handle or feel, reach with hands and arms, and stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl, push, pull, grip with force, talk or hear, and taste or smell. The employee is occasionally required to climb or balance. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds and may be required less frequently to lift and/or move more than 100 pounds. Vision requirements include good depth perception, field of vision, and the ability to adjust the eye to bring an object into sharp focus.

The work environment is outdoors where the employee is exposed to changing weather conditions. Employee is regularly required to lift or carry items. Employee is often exposed to an improperly illuminated or awkward and confining space. Employee will occasionally come into contact with air contamination such as dust, fumes, smoke, toxic conditions or disagreeable odors. Occasionally, employee will be working above ground level where the possibility of falling exists. Noise level is very loud.

Minimal overnight travel by land and/or air may be required.

Employee will work mainly with the foreman and other craft employees.

Hours are generally 40 per week. The employee may be requested to work up to 10 to 20 hours of overtime. Overtime will be compensated at time and one-half the employee's base rate or in accordance with applicable state laws.
