BIM Coordinators are primarily responsible for leading / directing MEPF BIM coordination processes and teams for projects of various building types, sizes, owners and locations. Additional essential responsibilities include: modeling when necessary and utilizing models for construction visualization, quantification and planning. BIM Coordinators report to a BIM Manager.


Duties and Responsibilities

  1. Collect and organize, create, convert and manipulate models for maximum utility. Set up and integrate initial models for team use. Disseminate model set up information to production team.
  2. Create model content/elements that fall between modeling scopes as necessary for effective coordination.
  3. Assist estimators in creating quantity take offs by validating models for quantification, modeling missing scope if necessary. Tools currently include Revit, Navisworks Manage and Assemble Systems.
  4. Create and update 4D sequences using Time-liner tool in Navisworks Manage. Work closely with scheduler.
  5. Set up and lead coordination meetings, monitor adherence to project BIM Execution Plan, established modeling and naming protocols, discover, evaluate, push resolution of and track conflicts and issues with the coordination team.
  6. Support field personnel through the pre-construction, construction and turn over / close-out processes.
  7. Perform informal BIM training, education and support to other construction personnel.
  8. Facilitate and promote wider integration of BIM and VDC field / mobile, cloud, estimating, scheduling, layout, constructability reviews, planning and progress tracking visualizations.
  9. Work within Layton's established BIM, project and company protocols.
  10. Install, update and troubleshoot BIM software as needed. Assist in maintenance of databases, libraries standards.



  1. Some formal education in Construction Management, Architecture, Engineering or similar field of study preferably 2 years.
  2. One year of coordination experience on large ($25M+) complex project(s) preferably with some time on a construction site.
  3. Ability and willingness to: travel when necessary (15%), work outside of regular business hours on occasion, independently manage multiple simultaneous projects, take direction and work with a varied team of professionals.
  4. Working knowledge in recent versions of: Revit, Navisworks Manage, AutoCAD, Autodesk BIM 360 platform, including: Glue, Docs and Field, PowerPoint, Blue Beam, Assemble Systems and miscellaneous graphics software.
  5. Ability to communicate effectively with construction field personnel, construction executives, architects, engineers, owners and subcontractors.
  6. Presentation and public speaking skills, creative problem-solving skills, organization and planning, attention to detail, a pro-active approach and an eye for aesthetics and quality control.
  7. Experience working with: networks, mobile devices, animations, renderings, construction scheduling, varied computer hardware and software, cloud platforms, FTP, construction estimating.
